Tattoo news: May 2026 — pt.1

MY Tattoo Studio, Dnipro · May 1, 2026

May in Dnipro is when tattoo season officially kicks in: clients pick open placements more and more, and artists start experimenting with colour and light shapes. In part one of the digest we cover the month's main style trend, share an interesting fact about Ukraine's tattoo scene and offer a practical tip for anyone planning a first summer session.

🖊 Botanical fine line — delicate botany in a thin line

In May the number of requests for botanical motifs in fine line style noticeably grew in Dnipro: thin stems, wildflowers, olive twigs and ferns. These pieces look delicate, sit well on the forearm, collarbone or ankle and are a great pick for a first tattoo. Clients increasingly choose minimum detail and maximum "breathing room" in the composition.

  • wheat ears and wild grasses — symbolism of Ukrainian summer
  • micro-bouquets on the inner forearm
  • leafy branches wrapping the wrist or ankle
  • fine line paired with tiny colour accents
💡 Fine-line botany is the perfect balance of aesthetics and restraint: visible, but never shouting.

📌 Ukrainian embroidery as inspiration for tattoos

A separate direction actively developing in Ukrainian studios is adapting vyshyvanka patterns into tattoos. Artists reinterpret regional designs: Podillia diamonds, Polissia crosses, Hutsul plant motifs. It's not just decor but a way to wear your cultural identity on your skin.

💡 A pattern from a family vyshyvanka is one of the most personal subjects you can move into a tattoo.

💡 How to prepare skin for a spring tattoo

Before the session it's important to look after the skin — especially after winter, when it's often dry and sensitive. A few days before, ramp up hydration, skip aggressive peels and stay out of the tanning bed. On the day, arrive well rested, eat 1–2 hours ahead and bring water and a snack.

  • 2–3 days before: daily cream or lotion on the future tattoo zone
  • 24 hours before: no alcohol, energy drinks or aspirin
  • day of the session: comfortable clothes that expose the needed area
  • after the session: avoid sun and pools for at least 2 weeks
💡 Hydrated, rested skin takes pigment better and heals faster.
