Tattoos in summer: care and preparation guide
One of the most common questions from April to September: "Can I get a tattoo in summer?" Answer — yes, but with a few important rules in mind.
Why summer is considered a trickier season
The main issue is sun and heat. A fresh tattoo (first 4–6 weeks) is extremely sensitive to:
- UV radiation — direct sun can damage the pigment and slow healing
- Sweat and humidity — increase the risk of infection
- Sea and pool — chlorine and salt water are off-limits until full healing
- Sand — an abrasive that can damage the scab
Preparation rules for summer
- No tanning of the tattoo area for at least 2 weeks before the session
- Schedule the session so the first 4–6 healing weeks fall outside beach season
- Or pick placements you can easily cover in summer: shoulders under a t-shirt, thigh, etc.
Fresh-tattoo care in summer
- Protect the tattoo from direct sun — wear clothing or use a wrap
- After healing — SPF 30–50 every time you're in the sun
- No swimming in open water, pools or the sea until fully healed
- Moisturise the skin twice a day — it dries out faster in heat
- Avoid heavy sweating (intense sports) for the first 2 weeks

When's the best time to book?
Ideally — May or September: the active sun season either hasn't started or is already over. But if you want it in summer — just pick spots you can cover and follow the care rules.
