Colour tattoos: everything about bright work
A colour tattoo isn't just a picture on skin — it's a living accent that pulls the eye and adds character. If you want it to sing loud and stay lit years later, it's worth understanding pigments, styles and aftercare.
How colour tattoos differ from black-and-grey
Colour work behaves differently: pigments sit denser, skin heals a bit longer, and the outcome depends heavily on the light and on your own skin tone. At MY Tattoo Studio Marta chooses the palette individually — what burns like fire on fair skin can go muted on olive. That's why the sketch and colour map are agreed before the session. This is not the case where you "decide on the fly". On possible contraindications and pigment allergies — see the separate article.
Popular styles in colour
In Dnipro over the last few years, clients have been coming less often for classic old-school and more for fresher directions. Colour lets you play with mood — from delicate watercolour to juicy neo-traditional.
- Neo-traditional — saturated outlines, dimensional florals, animals, portraits
- Watercolour — soft transitions, splashes, the feel of a living brushstroke
- New school and cartoon style — bright characters with expressive graphics
- Realism in colour — flowers, fruit, eyes that look like a photo
- Illustration — stylised subjects with punchy colour accents
Tattoo pigments: what matters
Ink quality is 50% of the result. Marta works with certified pigments from European and American brands that meet REACH standards. These are stable over time, don't "shift" to blue or green, and are safe for the skin. Cheap pigments of unknown composition are the main reason some old colour tattoos end up looking like a faded stain.
Aftercare and colour longevity
Bright work needs a bit more attention during healing — full guide in the article on tattoo aftercare, and the specifics of the summer season — separately. In the first weeks the skin "gives back" excess pigment, and that's when the final look of the piece is set. A few basics:
- Sun is enemy #1 — UV kills brightness faster than anything else, SPF 50 is mandatory
- Moisturise — dry skin makes colours look dull
- No pools or saunas for at least 3–4 weeks after the session
- Touch-ups — sometimes after healing you need to "brighten" specific spots, that's normal
How much a colour tattoo costs in Dnipro
The price of colour work at MY Tattoo Studio starts from 1500 UAH and depends on size, sketch complexity and number of shades. Colour is always a bit more expensive than black-and-grey because of pigment consumption and longer time in the chair, but the result is worth it. Marta names the exact price after discussing the idea — more on how pricing is set. The current price list — here.
